Soldier among 2 injured, tragey averted in J and K

Srinagar, Jan 30 (UNI) A series of blasts left two people, including a soldier, wounded while security forces averted a major tragedy and recovered warlike stores in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said.

They said militants triggered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at village Hayeena crossing, targeting a security force patrol in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

One soldier was injured in the blast, they said. Later, security forces conducted search operations in the area. However, no one was arrested.

Umar Shafeeq Rather, a student of class nine was injured when an explosive device, he was fiddling with, exploded at Chakroo in Pulwama district. He was admitted to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura.

A security force patrol party averted a major tragedy when they detected and later defused a live grenade at Bijbehara in Anantnag district today.

They said security forces unearthed a hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including two mortar bombs (60 mm), one ak rifle, one magzine, 10 rounds, one pika rifle, one RPG, One Self Loading Rifle, One Improvised Explosive Device (IED), One UBGL and one wireless set at Kokernag. However, no one was arrested.

Security forces also busted another hideout at Marats in Rajouri district of Jammu region last night.
