Shia mourners observe Muharram

New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) Hundreds of Shia Muslims today participated in 'Tazia' processions to observe Muharram, commemorating the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammad's grandson, Imam Hussein, in battle more than 13 centuries ago.

The mourners, dressed in black and chanting ''Hai Hussein, Hai Hassan'', wound through the streets of the city in two processions amid tight security.

While one procession commenced from Kashmiri Gate, the other started from the Jama Masjid in the walled city.

Both the processions culminated at the Karbala Maidan in Jor Bagh. Traffic in the city was affected due to the processions.
