Security tightened in North Bengal for CM's visit

Siliguri, Jan 30 (UNI) The Security has been beefed up in North Bengal on the eve of the public convention at Bakshirhat.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would be present at the convention. Brahmaputra Jalpath Dabi Adaya Samity would be organising the convention demanding resumption of the river port at Dhuburi.

The Parliamentary waterways' standing Committee Chairman Sitaram Yechuri and Chairman of the Parliamentary Railways Standing Committee Basudev Acharya would also be present at the convention.

Dhubri Additional Superintendent of Police Omar Ali said a high alert was raised at Dhubri from January 26.

He also said police was keeping keen observation on the Bengal -Asom bordering areas.

Mr Ali also said, ''the police is equipped to thwart sudden strikes on the convention and the adjoining areas.'' Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said the police had intensified the vigil and cordonned the National Highways and neighbouring villages.

All police stations had been alerted throughout the district on the eve of Chief Minister's visit, he added.
