Repair work on MC Road to be over in 10 days: Minister

Kottayam, Jan 30 (UNI) State PWD Minister T U Kuruvila said surfacing work on the M C Road would be completed in ten days.

Talking to mediapersons here, the Minister said the contract had been given to six persons for repairing the road at an estimated cost of Rs 44 lakh.

He had given direction to officials concerned to undertake the work some two weeks back. But some of them delayed the work without taking timely action.

Directions had been given to take action against the erring officials, Mr Kuruvila.

Referring to the UDF agitation demanding completion of the work, he charged the UDF with being responsible for the present condition of the road.

If they had taken timely action to acquire the land, the work would have been completed in 2005 itself, he said.

The Minister said he would be going to Kallarkutty Dam Area to make an on the spot study of the water in River Periyar which was polluted with mud from the dam.

Referring to the church dispute, he opined both the factions should be ready for a compromise and peaceful settlement of the issue.
