Quack booked for claiming cure for AIDS

Nawanshahar, Jan 30 (UNI) In the first ever case of its kind, the Punjab government has booked a quack for publicly claiming that he could cure HIV/AIDS.

A case under Magic Drugs Remedies Act 1954 was registered at city police station here against Gurbax Singh, a resident of Kulam Road.

The case was registered on the instructions of the Punjab State AIDS Control Society, state Health and Family Welfare Secretary KBS Sidhu said today.

Mr Sidhu said the case was initiated and processed by Dr Daler Singh Multani, a senior officer of the AUDS Soceity.

He said Gurbax Singh was openely claiming that he could cure HIV/AIDS patients and he charged a heavy sum from those who approached him. The quack was warned on a number of occasions but he continued to make false claims, he added.

The state Health&family Welfare Secretary appealed to the public not to believe such types of quacks and doctors who claim that they can cure HIV/AIDS. He clarified that Anti Retrovial therapy was available at Civil Hospital, Jalandhar and Government Medical College, Amritsar for AIDS patients.
