CPM agitation on Polavaram project turns violent
Khammam, Jan 30: Agitation of CPI (M) protesting against the construction of Polavaram project on Godavari in seven mandals in Khammam district turned violent when police resorted to firing after the activists took to stone pelting.
The CPI (M) workers tried to gate-crash into sub-collector's offices demanding haulting of Polavaram project in Bhadrachalam, police had to resort to tear gas and later open fire to control the unruly mob resulting in the injury of the gunman of the ASP.
About 15 policemen were injured in the stone throwing of the CPI (M) activists, who were shifted to Hyderabad for treatment.
Khammam MLA Tammineni Veerabhadram alleged that the police had resorted to firing on CPI (M) activists who were agitating in democratic and peaceful manner.
The CPI (M) called for a bandh of Khammam district which was supported by the TDP, TRS and the BJP.
