Nikkei rises as TDK up ahead of earnings

TOKYO, Jan 30 (Reuters) The Nikkei share average rose 0.23 percent on Tuesday as TDK Corp. gained ahead of its earnings results and Nippon Steel Corp. and other steel makers continued to benefit from expectations of industry consolidation.

The Nikkei was up 49.59 points at 17,520.05.

The broad TOPIX index was up 0.24 percent at 1,737.72.
