Meghnad Bodhankar chosen for Shantaram Jain journalism award
Nagpur, Jan 30 (UNI) Veteran journalist Meghnad Bodhankar has been selected for the Late Shantaram Jain Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award this year.
The award, instituted by Late Shantaram Jain Memorial Foundation of Akola in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, consists of Rs 5,000 in cash, a memento, a scroll of honour, shawl and 'shreefal.' Atmaram Ukhalkar, promoter of the foundation, said the award is given every year to a senior journalist who has made significant contribution to the profession.
The award would be presented to Mr Bodhankar at a function to be held in Nagpur, Mr Ukhalkar said.
Mr Bodhankar began his career in journalism in 1959 in Raipur, where he worked as correspondent for The Hitavada of Nagpur as well as for United News of India (UNI), The Patriot, The Statesman and Current. Later, he worked in Nagpur in various capacities, including as Editor and later Editorial Advisor of The Hitavada, and Executive Editor and Editorial Advisor of Lokmat Times.
He was a member of the Press Council of India (PCI) and All India Editors' Guild, and the national council member of Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ). Mr Bodhankar was also the Chairman of the accreditation committee of the Government of Maharashtra for a while.
The late Shantaram Jain, who began his career in journalism in 'Rajasthan Press' of Akola, was also a well-known writer, poet and playwright, as well as a freedom fighter.
