Martyr's day observed in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 30 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid today near the statues of Mahatma Gandhi to observe his 59th death anniversary.

Meghalaya Chief Secretary S K Tewari, state Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang and many senior government officials also garlanded the Gandhi statue at state secretariat compound here.

A two-minute silence was observed and traffic at all signal junctions halted as a mark of respect to Father of the Nation.
