Indirasena's elevation to 'strengthen' BJP in south
Hyderabad, Jan 30 (UNI) The elevation of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh unit president N Indirasena Reddy as party's National Secretary is intended to strengthen the party base in the south.
The party, which had lost power aligning with the Telugu Desam Party in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, would spearhead short term and long term stirs for formation of separate Telangana and Andhra states and expand its base geographically and among various sections, including Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, party sources said.
Three-time Legislator, Mr Indirasena Reddy, who had served as the Legislature Party Leader before becoming the party state president, replaced former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya as National Secretary.
Expressing happiness over the 'trust' reposed on him by party President Rajnath Singh while reconsituting his team of office-bearers, Mr Reddy told UNI that he would strive hard to improve the party's image among various sections of the people.
Mr Reddy had headed the party youth wing and had been jailed during the Emergency.
