Haryana collects Rs 782 crore stamp duty

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (UNI) The Haryana government has collected Rs 1197 crore as stamp duty in the current fiscal so far as against Rs 782 crore during the year 2004-05.

''This has been possible even after reducing the rate of mortgage deed, possession and lease deeds and by maintaining transparency, rationalising the stamp duty and evasion of stamp duty,'' Haryana Revenue Minister Ajay Singh Yadav said today.

The Minister said the rate of stamp duty on conveyance and sale deeds of property had been reduced from 15.5 per cent to 8 per cent in urban areas and from 12.5 per cent to 6 per cent in rural areas.

Similarly for gift deeds, mortgage deeds with posession and lease deeds, the stamp duty had been reduced from 9.25 per cent to 5 per cent in urban areas and from 6.25 per cent to 3 per cent in rural areas.

He said with a view to empowering the women in the state, the state government had also granted two per cent exemption of stamp duty if the sale or conveyance of sale was executed in favour of a woman.
