Guv appeals for peace amidst Gorakhpur flareup
Lucknow, Jan 30 (UNI) Amid allegations of the Opposition parties against the ruling Samajwadi Party government of fanning communal tension in Gorakhpur and adjacent districts, Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar today appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony.
''The unfortunate incidents in Gorakhpur and a few other places in UP should not be allowed to have impact elsewhere,'' Mr Rajeswar said in his message.
The appeal from the Raj Bhawan came at a time when the state administration is being accused of 'inaction' attributed by the Opposition parties as Samajwadi Party's ploy to indulge in vote-bank politics ahead of the assembly polls in the state.
At least two people had been killed in the communal violence which erupted on Friday, forcing authorities to impose curfew in four police station areas of the eastern UP town. The incidents of violence have spread to other places, reports said.
