Four injured in police firing on procession

Begusarai, Jan 30 (UNI) Altogether four people were injured after police opened fire to disperse an agitated mob at Stiyara chowk under Manjhaul subdivision here this evening.

Police said processions were taken out from Kamla, Manjhaul and Pavda villages separately. As the procession reached near Satiyara chowk two groups clashed.

Police opened four rounds of fire to quell the violent mob in which four were injured. All the injured had been shifted to Begusarai government hospital for treatment.

A report from Katihar quoting Deputy Police Superintendent said police had to resort to firing to disperse the agitated mob in the procession which was passing through Navaganj village in the district. However, none was injured. The Police Superintendent and the District Magistrate were camping at the spot along with reinforcement to maintain peace in the area.

In another report from Bhagalpur about 25 people sustained burn injuries when a high voltage live electric wire fell on the procession crossing the muslim high bridge near National Highway 80 under Sattarpur police station area today.
