Elaborate security arrangements for polls: Commissioner

Mumbai, Jan 30 (UNI) Tight security arrangements have been made to meet any eventuality in the multi-cornered high profile Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on February one, Police Commissioner A N Roy said today.

Briefing mediapersons here this evening, Mr Roy said 1495 polling centres had been set up in the city that comprises 6930 polling booths.

At each booth one police personnel would be deployed apart from 330 beat marshalls. Few companies of State Reserve Police force would be deployed in sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas.

At least 3116 people had been taken into custody as a precautionary measure, the Commissioner said.

Mr Roy said at each zone, two Deputy Commissioners of Police had also been deployed to monitor the situation.

The campaigning ended at 1730 hrs today, 31 cases have been registered across the city, including 15 of bursting fire crackers.

Five control rooms would be working round-the-clock, he said.
