Direct state governments to curb communal violence: Left

New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) The CPI(M) today asked the UPA government to collect reports on incidents of communal violence in various parts of the country and direct the respective state governments to put down disruptive activities with a firm hand.

There had been violence in Gorakhpur, Jabalpur and earlier in Bangalore besides in Kerala's Tirur and Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, the party Polit Bureau said in a statement.

The Left party claimed the consequences of the BJP's aggressive communal stance at its Lucknow session are becoming evident. A common feature of these incidents is the involvement of the RSS outfits which are observing the Golwalkar birth centenary, the party added.

''In some places like Bangalore and Tirur, Muslim fundamentalists had also created the provocaiton for RSS retaliation. In Gorakhpur, the notorious activities of BJP MP Mahant Adityasnath, are primarily responsible for the incidents of attack on Muslim minorties in the region,'' the CPI(M) said.

In many of thse instances, the state administraiton failed to realise the calculated plan to stir up by the commubal forces, the party alleged. ''In MP, the state government refuses to act to protect the minorties." UNI KSA MSJ RS1720
