CPI (M) wants TN Govt to announce incentive to farmers
Chennai, Jan 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Communist Party of India (Marxist) today urged the state government to announce an incentive of Rs 100 per quintal of paddy being harvested in the delta districts.
CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan, in a statement here, said the party's state committee adopted a resolution to this effect at its meeting in Coimbatore today.
As the samba harvest was going on in full swing in the delta districts of Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur Districts, the government should procure paddy by opening procurement centres.
As the support price of Rs 650 and Rs 620 per quintal of paddy announced by the Centre was not enough for the farmers, who were badly hit by the recent floods and droughts, the government should announce an incentive of Rs 100, he said.
Similarly, the government should hike the procurement price of sugarcane from Rs 1,025 to Rs 1,050 per tonne and enough prices for other farm products, he said.
