Congress to set up institutional mechanism to promote peace

New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) The Congress today announced that it will launch a new institutional mechanism to promote peace, non-violence and empowerment by involving like-minded parties and organisations from all continents.

''It will be known as 'Global Civil Society Forum,'' Congress President Sonia Gandhi announced at the end of the two-day international conference to mark the commemoration of the Satyagraha movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi.

Ms Gandhi said the structure and other details of the forum would be decided after getting feedback from senior leaders and organisations from different parts of the world, who attended the conference.

She said the forum would work towards alternative ways to solve the problems confronting the people and the world.
