Congress expels 8 rebels in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (UNI) The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today ordered the expulsion of eight rebel candidates from the primary membership of the party for defying the orders of the High Command and contesing against the party's official candidates in the state Assembly elections to he held on February 13.

The expulsions were ordered by PPCC Chief Shamsher Singh Dullo.

AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi yesterday made it clear that all the rebel candidates ''stood expelled'' for challenging the official party nominees.

Among those, who were shown the door are --Yoginder Pal Dhingra, a former Amritsar District (urban) president who is contesting as an independent from Amritsar North constituency. The others are Arun Pappal (Amritsar Central), Capt Rajinder Kumar (Amritsar West), Anil Dutta (Jalandhar Cantt), Amarjit Singh Saini (Anandpur Sahib), Charanjit Singh and former MLA Bhag Singh both from Chamkaur Sahib (reserve) constituency and Rajinder Deepa who is contesting as an Independent from Sunam.

Mr Dullo appealed to all Congressmen to unitedly fight the polls in Punjab.
