4 Meghalaya police suspended

Shillong, Jan 30 (UNI) Meghalaya Police have suspended four of its police personnel immediately following a complain of extortion lodged by two truck drivers at Jowai, near here.

One sub-inspector and three constables were suspended yesterday after the two truck drivers alleged that the police personnel had assaulted and demaded huge extortion money from them, Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police H Nongpluh told UNI here over the phone from Jowai.

He said the two drivers have alleged that the police personnel, patrolling on National Highway 44, extorted Rs 10,800 from them.

A show cause notice had been issued against personnel to negate the allegations against them, the SP said.
