SIA to reduce fuel surcharges
New Delhi, Jan 29 (UNI) Singapore Airlines (SIA) will reduce its fuel surcharges following a decline in jet fuel prices in recent weeks.
When the surcharges were introduced, SIA undertook to keep their application under ongoing review, and to make adjustments in response to sustained changes in the price of jet fuel.
This is the second time the surcharges have been reduced: the first was in October 2006.
For tickets purchased from tomorrow, the surcharge for flights between Singapore and gateways in southeast Asia will be reduced from 18 US dollars to 16 dollars per sector.
Between Singapore and gateways in the United States and Canada, they will drop from 82 dollars to 78 dollars per sector. For all other flights, the reduction will be from 54 dollars to 52 dollars per sector.
While the price of crude has come down, jet fuel prices have not fallen to the same extent and the difference between the two remains high. SIA said collections from the fuel surcharges have only given partial relief from the cost increase as a result of the high price of jet fuel.
The airline will continue to monitor the price of jet fuel and regularly review the level of the surcharge, it said in a statement.
