Mammootty bags Atlas Film Critics Best Actor Award 2006

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 29: Mammootty was chosen the best actor for the Atlas Film Critics Award-2006, while ''Karuthapakshikal'' and its Director Kamal have been adjudged the best film and best Director respectively.

Announcing the awards in a press meet here, Chairman Atlas Groups, the main sponsor of the award, M M Ramachandran told reporters the best actress award went in favor of Padmapriya. While Mammootty got the award for his roles in Karuthapakshikal and Kayyoppu, Padmapriya annexed the awards for her roles in Karuthapakshikal and Yes Your Owner, he added.

Girija Vallabhan and Kaladharan, the Producers of Karuthapakshikal, which won as many as five awards, including best film, director, actor and actress, would get Rs one lakh, while the best actor and actress would receive Rs 25,000 each, Mr Ramachandran said.

Noted Producer P V Gangadharan would be honored with 'Chalachitra Ratnam', considering his comprehensive contribution to the Malayalam film industry, he added.

The second best film award was shared by Kayyoppu, Rathrimazha and Anandabhairavi.

Following were the other important award winners: Jagathi Sreekumar (second best actor), Mohini (second best actress), M G Sreekumar (best playback singer-male), Manjari (best playback singer-female) Alex Paul (music Director) M M Ramachandran (special jury award).

The jury selected the best movie from a list of 31 feature films and two documentaries.
