J&K police launches anti-polythene drive in Kheer Bhawani
Srinagar, Jan 29 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police today organised a rally to spread awareness among the general public against the use of polythene and polythene products in Kheer Bhawani area, about 30 km from here.
The first of its kind rally was organised by the Kheer Bhawani police station in Tulmulla area.
The rally, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Sajjad Ahmed, started from the police station and culminated at Kheer Bhawani, covering a distance of five km by foot.
The famous Kheer Bhawani temple of Goddes Ragnya Devi is also located in the area. The temple had been first built by Maharaja Pratap Singh in 1912 and later renovated by Maharaja Hari Singh.
The shrine was being looked after by the Dharmarth Trust headed by Dr Karan Singh.
Village elders, representatives of NGOs, students and prominent citizens took part in the rally.
The villagers were informed about the harmful effects of polythene and polythene products through a public address system.
Efforts were also made to ensure that the message reached every household and villagers, particularly the women folk, in the area.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has also imposed a ban on the use, sale and manufacture of polythene and polythene products.
