Delhi to become self-reliant in power before Commonwealth Games
New Delhi, Jan 29 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today claimed that the national Capital will become self-reliant in the power sector before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
With commissioning of Bawana and Pragati Power Project-II, Delhi would have an additional 4,000 MW power to meet the requirements of the city, she said after inaugurating power department's Public Grievance Cell at Minto Road in Central Delhi.
Delhi government was committed to provide quality services in power sector to the people of Delhi for which it had implemented reforms that resulted in ''tremendous improvement,'' Ms Dikshit further said.
Demand for power was continuously increasing. It had increased from 2500-2800 to 3800 MW during the last three four years and may increase to 7500 MW before the Commonwealth Games, the Chief Minister added.
She expressed hope that after the commissioning of Bawana and Pragati Power Project-II, 1500 MW Project in Haryana and two NTPC projects of 490 MW, the power supply in Delhi would be sufficient to meet the requirements.
Ms Dikshit also said the Public Grievance Cell would handle all kinds of power related grievances of consumers/citizens, categorise and forward to respective private powere suppliers (discoms) for time-bound redressal.
Few selected grievances would be monitored by the state power department. Though all three discoms had their own setup to redress consumer grievances, this cell would be an additional/supplementary forum to provide relief to the consumers.
Power Minister Haroon Yusuf, Retired Delhi High Court judge and newly-appointed Chairman of PGC R C Chopra, Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami, Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta and a large number of representatives from various RWAs were present on the occasion.
