Women denied justice in ticket distribution:State Women Comm
Hardwar, Jan 27 (UNI) No party has done justice to women in ticket distribution for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections, Chairperson State Women Commission Dr Santosh Chauhan today said here.
She told reporters that women played a key role in the creation of the state and they were at the centrestage of the social, economic and political life of the State.
''Though all the political parties pay lip service to the cause of women and talk of giving one third representation to them, they completely ignore their claims in ticket distribution,'' said Dr Chauhan.
She further said though there was no dearth of talented women with winning prospects in all the political parties, no party has given adequate representation to them. In the 70 seat assembly the main opposition party, the BJP has fielded 7 women, while the ruling Congress led by Sonia Gandhi, has given tickets only to 5 women.
The Commission appealed to the political wings of all parties and women activists in the State to raise their voice against this ''partisan behaviour reflecting their patriarchal mindset,'' she said.
