Probe into registration of case against Seechewal followers

Kapurthala, Jan 27 (UNI) Deputy Commissioner Raminder Singh today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the registration of ''attempt-to- murder case'' against Baba Sukhjit Singh and four followers of renowned environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal engaged in the karseva (voluntary service) to clean the Holy Bein.

The DC deputed Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) B S Multani to complete the inquiry within seven days on the complaint submitted to him by more than three dozen sarpanches, panches, social and voluntary organisations in which they alleged that police had registered the cases under political pressure to harass the karsevaks.

The followers of baba Seechewal had a clash on January 23 at Sultanpur Lodhi with the farmers who had allegedly encroached upon the land belonging to the Bein and were opposing the kar sewa since the administration had started the demarcation work resulting in the injuries to five farmers and six followers of Baba Seechewal.

Baba Seechewal told mediapersons after meeting with the Deputy Commissioner that his followers were cleaning roads as usual when some farmers who were staging a dharna in the grain market started beating one of them.

When the other karsevaks came to his rescue, the agitating farmers attacked them with stones, resulting in injuries to more than five karsevaks. In the scuffle, some of the farmers were also injured, he said.
