Bangalore, Jan 27 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today called for floating a 'Film Bank' in Cooperative Sector to meet the financial needs of Film industry.

Stressing that the state government was ready to contribute towards seed money, Mr Kumaraswamy said that formation of such a Bank would go long way in helping Producers who can avail soft loans at reduced rate of interest as was done in case of Four per cent interest on Agriculture loans availed by the farmers.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating a week-long International Children Film Festival organised by Children's India here.

He said that at present more than 70 per cent to 80 per cent of the income earned by producing films were going towards payment of interest on finance availed for film producing and formation of such a Bank would pave way for helping each other. ''If Film Chamber comes out with a comprehensive plan involving all film artists for formation of 'Film Bank', I myself being a person from film industry, would extend all possible help from the government to the growth and sustainability of film industry in the state'', he added.

Mr Kumaraswamy said that Rs 100 Crore project for construction of eight Malls was coming up in Jayanagar area in the City and one Mall would be earmarked for exhibiting Children films.

''However, Directors and Producers should concentrate on producing Children Films, ''There are people who produce film only to avail subsidy given by the Government. It should not be like that, instead we should produce film which entertains the viewers as well as help in moral boosting, building good character and courage and devoid of vulger scences'', he opined.

Mr Kumaraswamy said that every film should have substance to attract viewers, otherwise any amount of subsidy would not help the growth of the film industry.

The Chief Minister, to mark the occasion, felicitated noted children film actors including 'Malgudi Days' fame Master Manjunath, Vijay Raghavendra, Master Anand and Master Kiran, who entered Guinness Book of World Record for being the youngest Director.

More than 20 films including those produced in India, France, Japan, Germany, Iran and China would be exhibited during the week long Festival.

Andhra Pradesh Children's Film Society Chairman M Veda Kumar was the Chief guest in the festival.
