TN: BHEL to enhance unit equipments capacity

Tiruchirapalli, Jan 27: The Local unit of public sector giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is gearing up to enhance its power plant equipment manufacturing capacity to 8,660 MW by 2009.

Company Group General Manager R N Misra, in a press release here today, said the unit's present 4000 MW capacity would be increased to 5,750 MW by the end of 2007 and expressed confidence to achieve 8,660 MW by March 2009.

BHEL had received several orders worth Rs 20,000 crore for supply of power plant equipments during the current year, he said, adding the total order of the company's Tiruchrapalli unit was around Rs 5,000 crore.

Nearly 65 per cent of the country's installed power capacity of 1.3 lakh MW came from BHEL equipments. The Company was absorbing the latest technologies to ensure not only customer satisfaction but to meet the challenge of adding about 68,000 MW of installed capacity in the country by 2012, he added.
