Aiyar flags off unicyling expedition
New Delhi, Jan 27 (UNI) Union Sports and Youth Affairs Mani Shankar Aiyar today flagged off the unicycling expedition of Siddharth Rajan from Delhi to Lahore to promote Indo-Pakistan peace process.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Aiyar said this unique event would go a long way in promoting people-to-people contact.
He thanked the Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri for his help in getting Siddhartha Rajan a visa at an early date.
Siddharth Rajan is a 22 years old from India and has excelled in several adventure sports.
He picked up unicycling in Singapore and captained the Singapore unicycling national team. He has also achieved several long distance records in unicycling and has undertaken a long distance unicycling ride through Laos. He lives in Frankston, Victoria, Australia.
At present, Siddharth is preparing for a unique adventure trek from one Pole to the other, organized by the Pole to Pole leadership Institute.
The expedition is scheduled to commence at the North Pole in April 2007 and proceed to the South Pole.
The participants will use a variety of transport like cycling, skiing and walking.
The expedition members will be part of several humanitarian and environmental projects. Applicants for the expedition have to demonstrate the skill and endurance required for this arduous trip.
In his web site (supportsid.com) Siddharth has listed his achievements and sought support through sponsors to promote his application.
Official sources said his web site was rated one of the best by the Pole to Pole leadership Institute.
Siddharth has been selected by the Institute for undergoing the training for the expedition in Canada.
