68000 MW power generation envisioned in 11th Plan: Sahi
Kolhapur, Jan 27 (UNI) Union Power Secretary R V Sahi today said the 11th Five Year Plan envisions generation of 68,000 mega watts of electricity.
Of this, hydel power is envisioned to constitute 60,000 mega watts, Mr Sahi said while addressing a press conference here today.
Referring to the power situation in Maharashtra, Mr Sahi said the state was facing a serious problem as there was a shortfall of 4500 mega watts. He said the situation had aggravated since no proper attention was paid towards enhancing power generation over the past ten years.
However, the state has now initiated steps towards improving the power situation and will soon receive 250 mega watts from Parali and another 250 mega watts from Paras by end of March. Maharashtra will also get 2000 MW of power from Bhusawal and Khaparkhed stations within the next three years.
An investment of about Rs 62000 crore has been envisaged in the power sector over five years in conjunction with the private sector, which includes Rs 25000 crore for power generation, Rs 25000 crore for transmission, and the rest for distribution, Mr Sahi said.
