Shimla records another warm night at 10 degrees

Shimla, Jan 26 (UNI) Shimla recorded the warmest January winter night in five years at 10 degrees Celsius as temperatures continue to soar in Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours, the Met office said today.

The minimum temperature in Shimla rose to 10 degrees as compared to 9.5 degree Celsius yesterday, making it the warmest night during the winters since 2002 when night temperature rose beyond nine degrees.

The Met office said the minimum temperature recorded in Shimla during the winters was eight degrees above normal, while attributing the extreme warmth to the western disturbance that was hovering over the Jammu and Kashmir area and was likely to bring some precipitation in the higher altitude areas of the state.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature at Una town had surged to 28.2 degrees after recording over 25 degrees Celsius in twenty years in January, making it the hottest place in the state during the winters, it said.

It said temperatures across the state were rising during the last 24 hours with Sundernagar and Bhuntar recording minimum of 3.5 and 1.2 degrees Celsius respectively, while the tribal districts of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Chamb and Kullu were recording night temperatures between minus eight and minus 15 degrees.

The night temperature at Kalpa in Kinnuar district rose by another degree last night to stand at one degree as against two degrees recorded yesterday.

The mid and lower hills of the state were experiencing extreme warm conditions during the last few days, easing cold wave conditions in the lower areas.
