Seven students killed, 20 injured in Vyara school roof collapse

Surat, Jan 26 (UNI) At least seven students were killed and 20 others critically wounded when the roof a residential girls school, at Dhichakpura, 90 km from here, collapsed this evening.

Police sources said the roof slab of the Adarsh Nivasi Shala School in the tribal taluka of Vyara collapsed at 1730 hrs. Seven bodies have been recovered from the debris so far while more than 100 students and staff were still trapped inside. The injured have been admitted to the Referral Hospital and Janak Hospital in Vyara.

A rescue operation is on and besides the fire brigade, locals were also assisting in clearing the debris.

Assistance has been dispatched from here in the form of fire brigade vans and personnel.

Senior police officials and District Collector have rushed to the spot.
