Herd of elephants destroys sugarcane crops
Mysore, Jan 26 (UNI) A herd of seven wild elephants have destroyed sugar cane crops near Kadakola village near here today.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Gopal Singh said that the herd comprising of two male and five female elephants might have come in search of fodder and water.
The elephants, which might have come from Chikkadevamma Betta, about 10 km from H D Kote forest area, have destroyed sugar cane crops grown in many acres of land.
More than 30 forest staff trying to send the elephants back to forest but due to presence of large number of public they are leaving the sugar cane field. Several rounds were fired in the to scare the animals, however still they are in the field.
He said that there were no loss of life and damages to the crops could be assessed for payment of compensation after elephants were sent back.
