Opposition ZNP demands liberalisation of liquor act in Mizoram
Aizawl, Jan 25 (UNI) Mizoram's opposition party Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) has demanded an amendment of Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act (MLTP) considering the appeal of grape and guava growers of the state.
The ZNP in a statement today urged the government for establishment of wineries in the state for the home grown grapes and guavas.
Recently grape and guava growers had demanded liberalisation of MLTP act for locally manufactured fruit-wines following popularity of Myanmar grape wine - a less toxicant drink.
About a hundred families at Hnahlan village of southern Mizoram have been producing grape and guava but due to inadequate processing and marketing, a large quantity of fruits wasted every year. Locally manufactured grape wine being a contraband item under the MLTP Act, grape-growers have faced difficulties in commercialising their products due to alcohol contents, the ZNP statment added.
