Chennai, Jan 25 (UNI) Congress Working Committee member Veerappa Moily, who is in-charge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu, today said the party has not given up its demand for share in power in the state.

Talking to newspersons after an in-camera meeting with party MLAs for more than an hour, he said a majority of MLAs held the view that the party, if given a share in power, would be able to serve the people better.

Expressing the hope that Chief Minsiter M Karunanidhi would appreciate the demand, Mr Moily said, the party, however, would not embarrass the DMK leader by raising the issue again and again. ''We will leave the issue to be decided by party High Command, Sonia Gandhi and Mr Karunanidhi,'' he added.

The Congress leader made it clear that his party respected ''coalition dharma'' and pledged its full support to the DMK for the full five year term.

Ms Moily's remarks on share in power came two days after the party MLAs raised the issue of coalition government in the state Assembly, saying, coalition politics had been successfully implemented at the Centre and also in states like Maharashtra and Kerala.

The DMK is heading the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the state with 96 MLAs, 22 short of a simple majority in the 234-member House.

Later, Mr Moily, who called on Mr Karunanidhi at the latter's Gopalapuram residence, told newspersons that he did not discuss the issue of sharing power with the DMK leader.

''It is not at all in my agenda'', he said and described the meeting as a routine courtesy call.
