Cold wave abates in Delhi, rise in minimum

New Delhi, Jan 25 (UNI) The cold wave sweeping through the national capital over the past three weeks abated today with the mercury in the Capital rising sharply to 7.3 degrees Celsius.

The warmth in the air brought about yesterday by a decrease in intensity of cold winds persisted for the second consecutive day. The minimum temperature rose from 5.3 degrees C yesterday.

The maximum temperature also rose to 23 degrees C, from 22.7 degrees C yesterday.

Some fog was also witnessed this morning even though visibility levels continuing to remain normal at 800 m during the morning hours, which rose towards the afternoon.

''Cold wave conditions over Punjab, Northeast Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Northeast Madhya Pradesh have abated,'' the weather office said.

And, with the weatherman forecasting a further rise in night temperatures in the next 48 hours, Delhiites could finally witness a warm weekend, after three consecutive weekend of severe chill.

''The rise in night temperatures is likely to continue for next one-two days,''the weather office said.

Infact, weathermen have forecast a rise in minimum temperature in Delhi to nine Degree C tomorrow.

The chill could, however, return to the city by the beginning of next week with fresh snowfall predicted in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours under the influence of a feeble western disturbance.

The weatherman have forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with slight fog or mist expected in the morning.
