CLRI to invest Rs 182 cr towards tannery scheme

Chennai, Jan 25 (UNI) Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) here has planned to invest Rs 182 crore towards tannery modernisation scheme under the Integrated Development of Leather Sector (IDLS).

Talking to UNI here, CLRI Director Dr A K Mandal said CLRI out of the total investment of Rs 182 crore, the CLRI has so far, sanctioned Rs 17 crore to 67 tanning units for modernisation.

"Another 56 units were waiting for financial approaval", he said, adding some more institutes were in various stages of processing.

Out of the total 147 applications received from various tanning units, nearly 75 per cent applications were from the SSI sector, he added.
