CBI asks Gzb police to register FIR in Nithari accused assault case

New Delhi, Jan 25 (UNI) Following the 'assault' of the Nithari serial killings accused at a Ghaziabad court this morning, the CBI has asked the local police there to register an FIR against the 'attackers'.

Besides requesting the Ghaziabad police for taking ''appropriate action as per law'' against the assailants, the central agency has also informed the Union Home Ministry and the Uttar Pradesh government about the incident, according to the CBI here.

Moninder Singh Pandher and Surinder Koli were beaten by the ''local lawyers and others'' after being produced in the Court of Special CBI Magistrate at Ghaziabad at about 1030 hrs, said the CBI in its statement.

''All out efforts were made to save the accused from the fury of the mob by the CBI team, police escort and the local police. In this scuffle, the CBI/police officials and the accused persons suffered minor injuries.'' The accused were later rushed to the RML Hospital in New Delhi for medical treatment, it added.

It also clarified that on January 24 the CBI had written to SSP, Ghaziabad informing him about the production of accused in the Court while requesting to make ''adequate security arrangements''.

Meanwhile, three policemen -- SHO Kavi Nagar Rakesh Paliwal, Chowki in-charge (Kachahri) Som Prakash and SI Insha Ram have been suspended following the unsavoury incident.

Also, in Chandigarh, Moninder's son has sought registering of an FIR into the incident with his lawyer alleging that the 'assault' was pre-planned.
