4 sentenced to 7 yrs RI in fake currency case

Ahmedabad, Jan 25 (UNI) A local court today sentenced four persons to seven years rigorous imprisonment in a 2004 fake currency racket case.

Additional sessions judge V Y Desai convicted Siraz Ahmed Sheikh, who was serving at the General Post Office here, Saurabh Naigaokar, son of a retired IPS officer, Anil Ratilal Dawada, and Sabbir Anwar Hussain alias ''Chidi''. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 upon each of them.

Siraz and Saurabh were arrested by the Bapunagar police while trying to circulate fake currency of the denomination of Rs 50 and Rs 100. The police had seized 80 fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs 100 from Siraz and another 17 fake notes from Saurabh.

During their interrogation, the duo revealed that the notes were being printed at the house of Siraz's sister in the city. Police raided that place and seized a personal computer, printer and other materials which were being used for printing the fake currency notes.

The duo also disclosed the name of Sabbir from whom police seized another six notes in the denomination of Rs 100. Later, the fourth person, Anil Dawada, too was arrested.
