"WiMax may replace Fibre connectivity shortly": Intel Chief
Bangalore, Jan 23 (UNI) The newly developed WiMax technology may replace the present fibre connectivity shortly to give boost to Information Technology in the world, Intel Corporation Executive Vice President Sean Maloney said today.
'' Wireless technology is catching up fast and with difficulties faced for installing fibre connection the new technology would certainly take over to faster growth of IT in the world", he added.
Mr Moloney was delivering his keynote address at the 'Wireless World 2007'-- National Conference and Exhibition on Wireless Technology organised by Intel here.
Lack of connectivity had been a hindering factor for the spread of internet he said adding that broadband connectity was less than 50 per cent at present.
'' Personal Computer industry is still feeling the pulse beat.
In 2001 the forcast was much higher. In India PC market is maintaining sustainable growth since 1990. Once the wireless technology catches up the profit of PC industry would be much higher, there is ample scope'', he added.
He said that due to difficulty of laying fibre for the last mile of connectivity people were yet to take advantage of the technology development in IT sector. But WiMax would certainly remove this shortcoming and enable each and every house, in Urban and Rural areas to get connected.
Mr Moloney said that Media industry, which was taking full advantage of broadband connectivity, would get further boost with the introduction of wireless technology.
He said that in India strong awarness was created with the government, but what was needed was government should speed up its action in removing the bottlenecks at present faced by the IT industry.
intel Managing Director (Emerging markets) Lil Mohan, talking to newsmen said Government regulation was bothering introduction of WiMax technology in India. "The government should relax its regulation for broadband connectivity so that every player, whoever has developed new technology, can enter and introduce the technology", he added.
Replying to a question, he said that infrastrucutre may not be a problem in India for introdoucing WiMax technology since each and every Cell Phone company have their own tower.
