TV series Future Living 2020 to be aired on Discovery channel

Mumbai, Jan 24 (UNI) The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the British Council have jointly commissioned a special six part TV series 'future living: vision 2020' for the Indian audience, which will be aired on Discovery channel in March.

The series will be premiered in Mumbai at IIT Bombay's Techfest 2007, beginning with a brief preview at the inaugural ceremony tomorrow.

The UK-sponsored 'future living' series will highlight the challenges and opportunities of the future in areas of lifestyle, computing, health, sustainability and creativity and will also show the contribution of cutting edge UK science and innovation that are helping to pioneer the way forward in these fields.

A British High Commission statement issued here yesterday said that the series will reach out to a wide audience, share ideas for innovation, and generate new prospects for research partnerships.

''We want UK to be a the key partner for India in science and innovation, to improve the lives of ordinary citizens. UK is a major player in science, with many nobel prize winners. Our science budget has doubled from pound 1.3bn to 3.5bn in less than a decade.'' Deepak Shourie, EVP and Managing Director of Discovery Networks India, said, ''Future Living 2020 alludes to what the near future has in store for mankind. What this series shows us is that as scientists and researchers probe newer ways of improving and bolstering technology and its delivery mechanisms in various fields of endeavour''.
