Tatas aim to capture rural automobile market: FADA

Kolkata, Jan 24 (UNI) Tata Motors' small car will capture the two-wheeler market in the country, according to Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) president Vinod Agarwal.

Speaking on the sidelines of a programme organised by Bengal Chambers of Commerce and Industries, Agarwal said some 23,000 two wheelers hit the market in West Bengal in a month. This two-wheeler market will be replaced by samll cars. Tata Motors' was targeting this segment of customers, Agarwal opined.

Agarwal, who is also the dealer of Tata Motors' sponsored Lexus Motors' Ltd, said Tatas were aiming this market. Five new Lexus motors outlets will be opened soon in Baruipur, Kalyani and Diamond Harbour.

" The main aim is to attract rural customers. Currently Tatas have 150 Lexus Motors' dealers in the state.

Currently passenger cars sale has grown at the rate of 20 per cent and in first nine months of this fiscal sold some 6.84 lakh cars compared to 5.54 lakh cars last year.

West Bengal transport minister Subash Chakraborty said the potential of job creation in transport and communication was very high. " We have received investment proposls from foreign and India consortium recently. They want to set up an aircraft maintenance at around 5000 acre of land in the state". He, however, declined to name the company.
