Seven couples are trying their luck for Akola Municipal Corporation

Akola, Jan 24 (UNI) As many as seven couples are trying their luck to enter into Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC) through general election which will be held on Feb 1st.

Congress city women chief Usha Virak, an official nominee of Congress, is contesting the election of ward no 49, while her husband Jagjeetsingh Virak is contesting the election of ward no 47 as an independent against Madan Bhurgad, Congress city chief and official nominee.

Official Congress candidate Jainnabim Ibrahim is in fray for the ward no 19, whereas her husband Mohammed Ibrahim is contesting as an independent against Congress candidate Soid Khan.

Both women candidates of Congress were served notices of disciplinary action by the Congress. However, when contacted, both of them told that their husbands are adamant and refusing to withdraw their candidature.

Contrary to this, a couple belonging to Shiv Sena is the official candidate of the party and contesting election in different wards.

AMC former chairman and Shiv Sena condidate Sanjay Shelke is contesting the election of ward no 17, while his wife Manjusha is trying her luck from ward no 32 of old city area.

However, a couple belonging to BJP has entered the fray for AMC election following which they were not given party tickets.

The BJP corporator Sanjay Badone and his wife Madhuri are trying their luck from word no 66 and ward no 59 respectively.
