Russian Foreign Min. cancels trip to Kabul, heads for New Delhi
New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who was to visit Afghanistan, cancelled his trip because of bad weather in Kabul and instead headed to Delhi where he will join President Vladimir Putin tomorrow.
The Russian Foreign Minister was scheduled to visit Kabul for discussions on writing off the 10 Billion Dollar debt that Afghanistan owed to the former Soviet Union.
He also had to attend the opening of the re-constructed Russian embassy compound in the Afghan capital, RIA Novosti quoted a Russian Foreign Ministry official as saying.
After his plane failed to land at Kabul international airport due to bad weather, it headed straight to New Delhi where Mr Lavrov will join President Putin who will arrive here tomorrow on a two-day official visit for discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade.
