Kolkata to host International Bengali poetry festival
Kolkata, Jan 24(UNI) More than 400 Bengali poets from all over the world will participate in the first International Bengali Poetry Festival beginning at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) here on January 27.
Being organised jointly by the EZCC and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the three-day event would be inaugurated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Rajan Dasmunsi in the presence of eminent poets Nirendranath Chakraborty and Sunil Gangopadhyay.
The Festival, largest of its kind, so far anywhere in the world, will have participants not only from Kolkata and West Bengal but also from almost all other states including Andhra Pradesh, Asom, Delhi, Jharkhand, Haryana, MadhyaPradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh, besides those from countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Norway, Russia, Thailand, the UK and the US.
Apart from recitation of poems by the participants, several workshops on various aspects of poetry would also be held during the Festival, which would continue till January 29.
