Kaiga 5th and 6th Units with 700 MW capacity each
Sirsi, Jan 24 (UNI) The Fifth and Sixth units of Kaiga Atomic Power Project may be of 700 MW each, Company Project Area Director (Site) Harsha Kapur indicated today.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Kaiga Atomic Reactor Power Project at Mallapura town ship for Journalists yesterday, he said that in order to generate 20,000 MW of Power in the country by 2020 National Thermal Power Corporation of India Ltd (NTPCIL) is establishing atomic reactor of more capacity and in this the 5th and 6th units of Kaiga were also included.
He said that the construction work of 220MW capacity of 3rd unit has been completed and the fuel filling work will be started by the end of this month. In the middle of February the reactor would attain criticality. By end of March the energy for commercial use will be started from this unit. Thereby it will be a record of this reactor that the generating energy within 5 years of the completion of the project.
Mr Kapur said that 80 per cent construction work of 4th unit at Kaiga has been completed and within end of this year and the unit may attain criticality.
He said that NTPCIL is spending Rs 40 lakhs for the improvement of Kaiga and its surrounding region for socioeconomic development and education. Kaiga project has already secured ISO-14001 certificate for safety measure adopted in the region. To get ISO-18001 Certificate he is implementing much more safety measures at Kaiga, he added.
