Delhi to host Global Village exposition from March 15

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) In an attempt to promote art, craft and culture, the Delhi Tourism is setting up a month-long exposition ''Global Village'' in the national capital from March 15.

''The Global village promises a holistic package of entertainment, fun and shopping... Traditional crafts and folk dances of various countries are woven around the theme of culture and heritage,'' Delhi Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told a news conference.

He said the highlights of the event will be the display and sale of of products and marketing of ethnic handicrafts.

''Besides the Village will feature street performances and food court, which will offer a wide range of international cuisine,'' he added.

The Delhi Tourism and Transport Cooperation Development Corporation Ltd along with the Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited entered into a memorandum of understanding with Dubai-based e4 Entertainment for the Global Village.

The event is inspired by the annual Global Village in Dubai which was launched in 1995.

More than 20 participating countries include China, Pakistan, Egypt, France, Germany, Vietnam, United Kingdom, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The Tourism Minster said with this event, to be set up over 60 acre areas near the Noida DND expressway, Delhi will become the first city in India to host such a programme.

''This would be a sustainable event to present Delhi as an international destination ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games,'' he added.

A Global Village Amphitheater, which has a seating capacity of over 1,500 people, will be inaugurated, Mr Lovely announced.

The main features of the event include International Pavilions which will create a facade representing a monument from their country, fire works and an international carnival.
