Centre's direction leaves poor out of the BPL - Nitish
Samastipur, Jan 24 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today admitted that several poor people were left out of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) list and alleged that they could not be included as per the Centre's laid down standard and direction.
Launching different developmental schemes worth Rs 335 crore at village Karpoori Gram (Pitaujhian) on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, Mr Kumar said his government was sincerely working towards making a Bihar as envisioned by Mr Thakur.
Mr Kumar said the directions laid down by the Centre to prepare the BPL list had some anomalies due to which several poor people were left out of the list and deprived of the benefits.
He said the 13 points fixed by the Centre for including a person in the BPL list was insufficient in the state and demanded to enhance the points to 16 so that the left out people could be accommadated.
Mr Kumar said his government was following the path shown by Karpoori Thakur, adding effort to make effective Panchayati Raj system was a step to fulfill the dreams of the socialist leaders like Karpoor Thakur, Rammanohar Lohiya and Mahatma Gandhi.
