AIIMS governing body to maintain status quo on Registrar issue

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) The AIIMS Governing Body today decided to maintain 'status quo ante' in the case of former institute registrar V P Gupta while setting up a committee to decide the complaints of doctors regarding promotion.

Describing the two-hour long Governing Body meeting presided by Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss as ''cordial where all the issues were decided by consensus,'' health Secretary Naresh Dayal told reporters here that the Governing Body decided to give an opportunity to the former Registrar, who was transferred to rural health centre in Ballabhgarh in December last year but did not join his duties after Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss stayed the orders, to explain his case.

''An inquiry has already been conducted by an internal Committee of the AIIMS. A copy of it would be made available to him (Mr Gupta) to provide him an opportunity of fair play and justice,'' Mr Dayal said. Mr Gupta would submit his report which would be considered at the next Governing Body meeting of AIIMS, he said and added that till such time 'status quo ante' would be maintained.

He said as there were plenty of represenations from doctors regarding promotion or lack of it under the Assessment Promotion Scheme, the Governing body decided to constitute a Committee headed by the Health Secretary to decide on them.

Mr Dayal said about the complaints of some students regarding their results, AIIMS Director P Venugopal informed the meeting that re-examination has already been ordered.

Significantly, Dr Venugopal, who has been at loggerheads with the Health Minister, also described the meeting as cordial and said that all the decisions were taken in consensus. The same views were expressed by Mr R K Dhawan, who is a member of the AIIMS Governing Body. However, BJP leader V K Malhotra was not present in the meeting.
