Centre reviews security in view of Republic Day, Putin visit
New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) In view of the recent reports of women suicide bombers and insurgents infiltrating the national capital, the Centre today held a comprehensive security review taking into account the Republic Day parade on January 26.
The two-hour meeting, chaired by Home Secretary V K Duggal, reviewed the security scenario in view of not only the Republic Day but all major events that will occur between January 26 and January 30 which include visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, home ministry sources said here.
Since the Russian President is a very high level dignitary, the meeting discussed on measures to provide foolproof security to him during his visit. Mr Putin, who is arriving here on January 25, is the official guest for the Republic Day parade this year.
Besides, Mr Duggal, the Defence Secretary, the Secretary, Security, the Delhi Police Commissioner, Special Security Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed in detail the threat perception in view of reports about women sucide bombers and ULFA women cadre infilterating the national capital and planning to target vital installations. The issue of militants using toy planes to bomb their targets also came up, but that threat was more for the states where assembly polls were due, the sources added.
Meawnhile, National Security Advisor M K Narayanan expressed satisfaction over the security scenario in the country before the Republic Day.
''The security scenario is in pretty good shape, but I am keeping my fingers crossed,'' Mr Narayanan said.
Regarding the threats to players in Cuttack, the NSA said that he was not aware of any new threat being issued.
