Srinagar, Jan 21 (UNI) In a first of its kind, an interface was organised between the Jammu and Kashmir police, locals, the civil administration and the Army at Handwara in Kupwara district today.

The interaction was organised by police at the environmental centre in Handwara to address the grievances of the locals.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara Dr Haseeb Mughal said the interface was held keeping in mind the right of the people to live with respect and dignity along with overall development of the area.

The aim was to improve police-public relations and redressal of genuine grievances of the people, he added.

Dr Mughal said more than 100 sarpanchs, numberdars, chowkidars and others of Handwara area interacted with the Commander of 7 sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the commandants of 21 RR, 33 RR, the Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara and senior police officials.

He said the locals came up with several complaints against excesses by troops in the area, which were immediately addressed by senior Army officers.

The locals have hailed the efforts of police in organising such an interface, saying the exercise would increase mutual trust between the people and the security forces and usher in an all-round development of the area.
